The comparison between social participation of students participating and non-participating in in-school sports Olympiads

Abstract
Introduction: Physical education and sports in the general sense of the word is a social phenomenon that promotes the relationships of people in society and the health of their body and soul. Therefore, the Ministry of Education has taken measures to encourage sports students to participate in recreational sports activities by using sports Olympiads and invigorating programs (1). In-school sports Olympiads are a window through which a sea of benefits can be crystallized in the individual and social life of students (2).The overall purpose of this study was to compare the level of social participation of students participating and non-participating in sports Olympiads.
Methods: This research was applied in terms of purpose and was based on a descriptive information collection method that was conducted by field method. To conduct the research design, the statistical population of the research consisted of 2532 first and second grade high school students, boys and girls of Dehaghan city. According to Morgan's table, 334 people (167 students participating in the in-school sports Olympiad and 167 students not participating) were selected as the sample size by simple random sampling. Data collection tool in the present study included a questionnaire of social participation of Sohrabi et al (2010). Independent t-tests were used to test the research hypotheses.

According to the results of the above table, it was found that there was a significant difference between the status of social participation and its components among students participating in non-school sports Olympiads.
Conclusion: It seems that the social participation of students participating in in-school sports Olympiads is due to the atmosphere of sports and also the creation of an existing social atmosphere through this Olympiad; It has caused the degree of social participation of this group of students in the situation tobe more desirable.
