| Abstract Introduction:. Kyphosis is one of the most prevalent postural deformities of the thoracic spine, which may negatively affect respiratory function, spinal biomechanics, and overall quality of life. Radiography is considered the gold standard for kyphosis measurement, but its limitations such as radiation exposure, high cost, and limited accessibility have led to the need for alternative tools. The aim of this study was to design and evaluate the validity and reliability of a novel smartphone-based application for kyphosis angle estimation. Methods: In this study, 22 men aged 25 to 40 were examined.. The kyphosis angle was measured using the developed application and compared with lateral spine radiography. Concurrent validity was determined using Pearson correlation coefficient. Intra-rater and inter-rater reliability were assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC).. Results: Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for repeated measurements was 0.96, indicating very high internal consistency. The single measure reliability was 0.832, and the average measure reliability was 0.909, demonstrating good inter-rater reliability of the application. Moreover, the correlation between kyphosis angles measured by the application and radiographic assessment was positive and significant (r = 0.64, p < 0.001). Conclusion:. The findings suggest that the developed smartphone application is a valid and reliable tool for measuring thoracic kyphosis and can be used as a practical alternative to radiography in both clinical and research settings. |
