| Introduction: Success in professional sports requires an integrated system for talent identification and development. Federations establish specialized, scientific, and well-equipped sports academies to identify and nurture talent. However, various mistakes in volleyball academies’ talent identification processes can significantly impact the effectiveness of talent scouting. Hence the purpose of this study was to prioritize the barriers to talent identification in volleyball academies. Methods: The research method was descriptive-analytical, applied in purpose, and conducted through a survey. The statistical population consisted of administrators, coaches, and players from volleyball academies licensed by the Volleyball Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Based on the Morgan table, 331 individuals were selected as the statistical sample using quota and convenience sampling methods. The data collection tool was a researcher-designed questionnaire. The face validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by 10 academic and field experts, and its construct validity was verified through confirmatory factor analysis. The reliability of the questionnaire was calculated using Cronbach’s alpha, yielding a value of α = 0.91. Data analysis was performed using SPSS26 software through the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, one-sample t-test, and Friedman test. Results: According to the Friedman test results, the mean ranks of managerial and executive factors (3.28), attitudes and support of administrators (3.26), economic factors (2.84), and human and environmental factors (2.03) were identified as the most significant barriers to talent identification in volleyball academies, respectively. Conclusion: Therefore, based on the subscales of these dimensions, it can be concluded that the most critical challenges facing volleyball academies include the lack of a proper organizational structure, weak understanding and belief in talent identification among some sports managers, insufficient budget for talent identification and development, and a lack of focus on fundamental and principled training in volleyball academies. |
