Abstract
Introduction:
Mountains are inherently dangerous for a variety of reasons. The growing popularity of mountain activities means that the number of visitors to mountain environments is increasing, so it is essential to be aware of the causes and factors that lead to mountain fatalities in order to prevent this from happening. This study provides a brief overview of the causes and predisposing factors of mortality in the mountains.
Method:
Searching reputable scientific sites with keywords and extracting and categorizing content is the method for conducting this review study.
Results:
Two main themes and 13 subthemes emerged from the data review, including:
A. Causes of death in the mountains: trauma, cold injuries, altitude sickness, sudden cardiac death.
B. Factors associated with mortality in the mountains: age and sex, medical history of cardiac events, previous physical activity level, type of physical activity, intensity of physical activity, season, mountainous region, time in a full day, calorie intake, and hydration.
Conclusion:
Several human and environmental factors can facilitate mountain deaths. Although the contribution of each of these factors has not been precisely determined in studies, understanding them can help prevent this event. Due to the increasing interest in mountain activities, the causes of mountain deaths need to be identified in order to prevent them and increase the safety of climbers
