| Abstract |
| Introduction: Technology is used in sports for various purposes. This study examines the technologies used in handball and their purposes. Methods: This is a review study that was conducted by searching reputable scientific research articles as well as reputable sports science websites using the combination of keywords and extracting related content, taking notes, and categorizing the content. Results: Regarding the applications of new technologies in handball, 9 main themes with 16 subthemes were obtained from the data analysis: 1.Training (virtual reality, computer games); 2.Evaluating athlete performance both during and after the game (Microsensor technology, Neural networks: DEEP sort and YOLO V3); 3.Refereeing (Ball tracking technology (iBall); Electronic team timeout system with audible signal "buzzer"; Handball-specific scoreboard; Wireless communication system; Video review: both during and after the match; Goal line technology); 4.Research (Using programming language to discover events and investigate physiological and functional parameters); 5.Injury prevention (Using infrared cameras, accelerometers, and wireless electromyography for injuries; Using wrist-mounted accelerometers for upper limb load control); 6.Sports equipment production (Optoelectronic measurement system and Force plate); 7.Dedicated workout design (Determining the required speed for players of each position by installing a sensor between the two shoulder blades, and collecting data through the WIMU PRO system and Local Positioning System); 8.Live match reporting and streaming (Play Net with less than 55 milliseconds latency; Live handball analysis with TV graphics; Automatic recording and saving of the entire match via the Once Video Analyzer system); 9.Predicting expected goals in professional handball (Machine learning techniques, in particular Cat Boost). Conclusion: Various technologies are used in handball for various purposes, each of which has had positive effects. Some technologies are specific for handball. Due to the many benefits of using technology in sports, it is expected that these technologies will be available in handball within our country as well. |
