Abstract
Abstract
Introduction:
Sleep is considered one of the fundamental pillars of health and optimal performance in athletes. Despite increasing evidence regarding the vital role of sleep in improving physical and cognitive performance, there remains a knowledge gap in the integration of various research findings.
Methods:
This study was conducted as a systematic review, examining 35 studies (20 Persian articles and 15 English articles) published between 2012 and 2025. Searches were performed in reputable databases using relevant keywords.
Results:
Analysis of the studies revealed that insufficient sleep has a direct negative impact on athletic performance. Adequate sleep (8 hours) leads to improvements in muscle strength, endurance, and reaction speed. Furthermore, quality sleep plays a decisive role in physiological recovery and enhances athletes' cognitive performance.
Conclusion:
According to the findings, incorporating sleep optimization programs alongside training programs is essential. Utilizing practical strategies including training management, proper nutrition, and relaxation techniques can lead to enhanced athletic performance.
