Abstract
Title: relationship between mental toughness and competitive anxiety in elite volleyball players
Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between mental toughness and competitive anxiety in Iran's elite volleyball players.
Methods: The Persian versions of the Sports Mental Toughness Questionnaire and the Competitive Anxiety Questionnaire were used to collect data. These questionnaires were completed by 41 elite volleyball players. The data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 26) and the correlation analysis method.
Findings: The results showed that the *confidence and constancy* component of mental toughness had a significant relationship with self-confidence (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the *control* component of mental toughness showed a significant negative relationship with somatic anxiety and a significant positive relationship with self-confidence. A significant positive relationship was observed between mental toughness and self-confidence, and a significant negative relationship was found with somatic and cognitive anxiety.
Conclusion: With an increase in mental toughness, the two negative components of competitive anxiety (somatic and cognitive anxiety) decrease, and self-confidence increases. so the results of this study can be used by coaches, teachers and the players that they have activity under their controls.
