Identifying obstacles to swimming development and providing talent identification methods

Abstract

Swimming is one of the favorite sports disciplines at the community and national level. With the identification of many challenges and problems, the existence of economic problems, cultural and legal restrictions, lack of infrastructure and resources, and inefficient management in this sport have been identified, and our effort in this research is to eliminate the shortcomings and examine and identify other factors and challenges in the development of this sport. It can be said that what defines a sustainable sports system (in any discipline) in societies is a systematic and planned approach that leads sports to its specific vision and goal. The development of swimming, like other sports, should be given attention by the authorities due to the significant effects it has on the individual and social lives of people. In general, the results of this study showed seven factors of obstacles to the development of swimming, which were: financial-infrastructural, managerial, equipment, motivational, media, professional and cultural barriers. The findings of the study showed that the three main initial factors were cultural, motivational and equipment barriers, respectively. A careful look at the barriers obtained shows that a large part of these barriers, like cultural barriers, are background barriers and can be considered as a basis for other barriers. The second goal was to identify and prioritize the desired methods of swimming talent detection. The results showed that three factors of social measures, managerial measures and educational and scientific measures were identified as the desired factors of talent detection in the swimming federation. These findings can help the managers and planners of the swimming federation in improving the talent detection process and developing the sport of swimming.
