Abstract
Introduction: This study investigates the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the roles of physical education coaches and teachers within student sports, focusing on educational opportunities and challenges. As AI technologies become increasingly integrated into various educational sectors, understanding their implications for physical education is crucial for effective pedagogical adaptation and curriculum development.
Methods: A qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews with physical education teachers and coaches in Tehran's educational regions 13 and 14. Participants were selected through purposive sampling to gather diverse perspectives on AI's current and potential influence. Thematic analysis was used to identify recurring patterns and key insights regarding AI's opportunities (e.g., personalized training, performance analysis) and challenges (e.g., ethical concerns, technological literacy, resource allocation).
Results: Findings indicate that AI presents significant opportunities for enhancing student athletic performance through data-driven insights, individualized training programs, and improved feedback mechanisms. AI tools can also streamline administrative tasks, allowing educators to focus more on direct student interaction. However, participants also highlighted challenges such as the need for specialized training for educators, potential job displacement fears, ensuring equitable access to technology, and addressing privacy concerns related to student data.
Conclusion: The integration of AI into student sports education is inevitable and offers substantial benefits for both students and educators. To harness these opportunities effectively, educational institutions must invest in professional development for teachers, develop clear ethical guidelines for AI use, and ensure that technological advancements support, rather than replace, the human element in coaching and teaching. Strategic planning is essential to navigate the challenges and maximize AI's positive impact.
