Abstract
Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the field of sports science by improving performance analysis, exercise design, and injury prevention(Onifade et al., 2025). Advanced language models such as ChatGPT can generate customized resistance training programs based on user characteristics and goals (Washif et al., 2024). Despite these capabilities, scientific validation is essential to ensure that such AI-based programs adhere to established exercise principles. This study aimed to evaluate the validity of a ChatGPT-generated resistance training program for women aged 20–30 with no previous training experience, examining its structure according to the FITT-VP framework and expert coaches’ feedback.
Methods: The program consisted of three weekly sessions targeting upper body, lower body, and full-body workouts. It was designed in accordance with the American College of Sports Medicine’s FITT-VP model (Ratamess et al., 2009). Thirty experienced coaches, averaging six years of professional experience, assessed the program through a digital questionnaire addressing structure, safety, and effectiveness. Descriptive data analysis was used to summarize their evaluations.
Results: Most coaches rated the program as safe, effective, and appropriate for beginners. The combination of bodyweight, free-weight, and machine-based exercises was viewed as suitable for muscle hypertrophy. The average rating exceeded 7 out of 10, reflecting strong validity and overall satisfaction. Some experts suggested increasing exercise variation and training volume to enhance motivation and adaptation (Havers et al., 2025).
Conclusion: The AI-generated resistance training program demonstrated acceptable scientific and practical quality for beginner women. ChatGPT showed potential as a supportive assistant for exercise professionals in developing individualized training plans. Nevertheless, continuous expert feedback remains essential to optimize AI-based program design and ensure user safety
