Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: Flat feet are a common deformity that disrupts the natural biomechanics of the lower limb by collapsing the medial arch, increasing the risk of related injuries (1). The aim of this study was to review the effect of using medical insoles on muscle electrical activity in individuals with flat feet.
Methods: The studies that investigated the effect of medical insoles on muscle electrical activity in people with flat feet, were searched in Persian and English in Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), Springer and Google Scholar databases from 2016 to 2023. After the review, 8 articles were selected for final analysis.
Results: The review of the eight selected articles demonstrated that the use of medical insoles causes significant changes in the electrical activity patterns of the lower limb muscles. Specifically, insoles reduce the excess activity in key lower limb muscles.
Conclusion: This review confirms that medical insoles are an effective intervention for correcting biomechanical disorders in individuals with flat feet. Therefore, the use of medical insoles is recommended as an important therapeutic intervention in individuals with flat feet.
