Abstract
Abstract
Introduction:
Artificial intelligence (AI) represents a key innovation for promoting physical activity (PA) among older adults through personalized and motivating approaches (Shen et al., 2025). By providing exercise programs tailored to individual abilities and supported by continuous feedback and encouragement, AI enables older adults to exercise more safely and regularly (Shen et al., 2025). AI-powered systems, such as social robots and smartphone applications, enhance the exercise experience through real-time feedback, emotional interaction, and suitable exercise design (Netz et al., 2025). In addition, combining data-driven analysis with human-centered design increases motivation, adherence to PA, and overall quality of life among older adults (Gabarron et al., 2024; Canzone et al., 2025). The purpose of this study was to identify AI-based strategies that can enhance motivation and participation in PA among older adults.
Methods:
Using a systematic literature review approach, peer-reviewed studies published between 2018 and 2025 were analyzed. Data were collected from Google Scholar by searching the keywords “artificial intelligence” and “physical activity” within the title and abstract fields. The search was limited to studies focusing on older adults and AI-supported interventions.
Results:
The reviewed studies indicated that AI-driven systems improve motivation and adherence to PA by providing personalized support, real-time feedback, and interactive engagement. These technologies offer adaptive and sustainable solutions that maintain long-term participation and improve functional performance.
Conclusion:
AI applications provide innovative strategies to promote motivation and participation in PA among older adults. Integrating personalized, interactive, and adaptive technologies can foster sustainable engagement and enhance physical and mental health.
