Abstract
Sport plays a vital role in promoting personal and social health, affecting physical well-being, mental health, family relationships, social cohesion, and moral values. Football, as a globally popular sport, has the potential to foster moral thinking, develop talents, and contribute to social transformation. This applied qualitative study aimed to analyze moral values in football. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 19 sports psychologists, selected purposefully using triangulation until theoretical saturation was achieved. Findings revealed that moral values in football are influenced by multiple factors across ethical, psychological, and social dimensions. Ethical challenges, including sexism, corruption, injustice, and materialism, reflect the multi-layered nature of moral issues in football. Psychological aspects, such as mental health, leisure, injury, sidelines, and lifestyle, highlight the sport’s impact on the mindset and well-being of its followers, with the excitement sometimes causing negative effects or injuries. Furthermore, football’s popularity and social importance, shaped by media, technology, competitive advantage, culture, investment, cooperation, planning, strategy, and talent development, demonstrate its global significance. Media has long played a key role in showcasing talents and conveying the moral messages of football worldwide. Understanding these influences can guide policymakers, coaches, and educators in promoting ethical behavior, psychological well-being, and social development through football.
