Abstract
Introduction:
Today, the success of organizations and societies depends on achieving sustainable and reliable revenue. Without ensuring adequate financial resources, sports organizations will face the risk of dissolution and loss of competitive ability in dynamic markets. Revenue generation is essential not only for developing effective planning, but also for maintaining the independence and self-sufficiency of these organizations(Santinha et al., 2022). Therefore, the present research was conducted with the aim of designing a pathology model for assessing the financial autonomy status of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Methods:
The nature of the present research methodology is analytical and exploratory, and in terms of objective, it is applied; it was conducted qualitatively. The method of data collection was library-based, followed by in-depth semi-structured interviews. To identify the harms of financial independence, expert interviews were conducted and open, axial, and selective coding techniques were used. Sampling was purposive and convenience-based, and continued until theoretical saturation was reached through interviews with 15 university professors specializing in sports management and presidents of sports federations.
Results:
Based on the qualitative findings and in the context of investigating the pathological conditions of financial autonomy in the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, thirty types of codes were identified. Open codes were categorized in the form of conceptual codes, which resulted in the formation of six conceptual codes (economic and financial vulnerabilities, innovation and financial management vulnerabilities, cost and budgetary vulnerabilities, financial volatility vulnerabilities, legal vulnerabilities, and political and economic changes).
Conclusion:
The financial autonomy of the Football Federation, requires serious attention to revenue stabilization mechanisms and institutional resilience building. In pursuit of the sustainability of these organizations, precise identification and management of these vulnerabilities can provide a foundation for developing sustainable financial policies and achieving financial self-sufficiency in sports federations.
