Abstract
Introduction : In today's society, teenage girls' sports participation in leisure time plays a key role in promoting their physical and mental health and providing them with social support. The present study was developed with the aim of identifying and presenting a conceptual model of teenage girls' sports participation in leisure time.
Methods:The present study was classified as qualitative research and was conducted with an exploratory nature and Glasser's emergent approach. The statistical population included female students, their mothers, and physical education teachers living in South Khorasan Province. Sampling was purposeful and took into account diversity in educational level and urban area and ended with fifteen semi-structured interviews until theoretical saturation. In order to analyze the data, open, axial, and selective coding was performed in stages. MAXQDA software version 2018 was used to analyze the interviews. Also, to examine reliability, the percentage of intra-subject agreement between the two raters was calculated, which was 76 percent. To ensure validity, the coding results were sent to the participants and confirmed.
Results: The key categories included motivations related to parents, peers, teachers, and stakeholder organizations, needs assessment, development of sports facilities and infrastructure specifically for girls, optimization of sports spaces for girls, facilitating access, increasing safety and security of sports spaces, policy-making for equitable distribution of infrastructure, increasing allocated budgets, reducing sports costs, holding sports camps and events specifically for teenage girls, informing and raising community awareness, changing family attitudes, reducing strict restrictions on clothing, creating culture through the media, and role modeling.
Conclusion: Implementing organizational, educational, and cultural strategies can lead to increased sports participation and improved leisure experiences for teenage girls. The results obtained can be a basis for policy-making at the level of schools, cultural institutions, and executive agencies with the aim of developing an active lifestyle in teenage girls.
