| Introduction: The modern sports ecosystem has evolved into a data-driven industry where Artificial Intelligence (AI) acts as a double-edged sword. While it presents unprecedented opportunities for performance optimization, it also introduces serious threats such as algorithmic bias and privacy challenges. The primary research gap is the absence of a unified strategic framework to analyze this duality at both micro (club) and macro (organizational) levels. This study aims to fill this gap by identifying opportunities and threats and developing future scenarios to guide sports managers. Methods: This qualitative study utilized a futures studies approach. Data were collected through a triangulation strategy, including a systematic literature review, multiple case studies, and semi-structured interviews with managers, coaches, and analysts. Data analysis was conducted in two stages: thematic analysis to identify opportunities and threats, followed by scenario analysis based on two critical uncertainties (regulatory approach and stakeholder trust) to construct possible futures. Results: Thematic analysis led to a matrix of opportunities (e.g., performance optimization, national talent identification) and threats (e.g., the 'black box' problem, confirmation bias, the digital divide) at both micro and macro levels. Based on the two identified critical uncertainties, three future scenarios were developed: 1) "Integrated Digital Transformation" (optimistic), 2) "Digital Disruption Era" (pessimistic), and 3) "Multi-Speed Adaptation" (realistic). Conclusion: AI in sports is a socio-technical phenomenon whose success depends more on human governance than on algorithms. Successfully navigating this era requires a strategic, two-level approach. Key recommendations include fostering data literacy at the club level and developing agile regulations while bridging the digital divide at the organizational level. Sustainable success in the AI era depends on strategically steering technology toward human-centered sporting goals rather than surrendering to it. |
