Introduction: Today, many of the problems that athletes face is within the realm of mental and psychological obstacles (1). In fact, the reasons that prevent one athlete from reaching success, or lead another to the peak of success, is often the individual's mental imagery. Instead, it must be sought in their inner and mental world.
Methods: For this research, articles in both Persian and Latin languages were searched from the citation databases Wos, Magiran, Pudmed, Springer, and the search engine Google Scholar. A total of 17 relevant articles were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and met the initial requirement for entry into the study. After re-examining the articles, 9 articles whose objective was to review the effect of mental training on the training performance. Mental imagery improves athletes' performance and shares a common mechanism with physical training.
Results: More than 85% of researchers have concluded that mental imagery enhances athletic performance and shares common mechanisms with physical training. Mental imagery is recognized as one of the effective methods for athletes and serves as a practical complement to physical exercises. It should be incorporated alongside physical training in all
conditions to maximize its impact.
Conclusion: Mental imagery is recognized as one of the effective methods for athletes and is a practical supplement
alongside physical training.
