| Abstract |
| Introduction: The global football landscape is increasingly leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for performance enhancement, injury prevention, and tactical analysis. However, the extent and nature of AI adoption in the Iran Premier League (IPL) remain unclear. This systematic review aims to synthesize existing evidence and reports on the applications of AI within the IPL Methods: A systematic search was conducted across electronic databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, Web of Science) and Persian databases (SID, Magiran) for relevant literature, including peer-reviewed articles, conference proceedings, and credible grey literature (technical reports, official club statements) up to 2024. Studies and reports detailing the use of AI, machine learning, or computer vision in the context of the IPL for player performance, talent identification, injury prediction, or match strategy were included. Results: The review identified a nascent but emerging field. The available evidence, though limited, primarily points to two key applications. First, computer vision for automated player tracking and post-match analysis is in its early stages of adoption by a few top-tier clubs. Second, there is growing interest in using machine learning models for talent scouting and predicting player potential. However, significant barriers were consistently reported, including limited financial investment, a shortage of specialized expertise, and data infrastructure challenges. No studies were found documenting the use of sophisticated AI for real-time tactical decision support or personalized injury prediction in the IPL. Conclusion: AI application in the Iran Premier League is still in its infancy, characterized by exploratory and fragmented implementations. While the potential is recognized, systemic barriers hinder its widespread and advanced use. Strategic investment in infrastructure, education, and data culture is essential for the IPL to harness AI's full potential and remain competitive internationally. |
