Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: The safety of sports activities is a key factor in maintaining the physical and mental health of students.
Sports accidents in schools are inevitable but predictable. The aim of this research was to develop a model for improving
safety management in school sports with a risk reduction approach.
Methods: The research was conducted using a qualitative method, following a grounded theory approach and systematic
pathway. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews with 23 participants, including physical
education teachers, sports management professors, school administrators, and safety experts, who were purposefully
selected. Data analysis was performed after consensus and theoretical saturation using open, axial, and selective coding
in MAXQDA software.
Results: The designed model includes 49 categories within 5 components: the central phenomenon with one category
(risks of school sports); causal conditions (9 categories); contextual conditions (10 categories); intervening conditions (10
categories); strategies (9 categories); and outcomes (10 categories), providing a comprehensive framework.
Conclusion: Based on the results, safety management in school sports requires a comprehensive and systematic approach
that, by accurately identifying risks, causal, contextual, and intervening conditions, can offer effective strategies for
reducing hazards and enhancing student health. The proposed model emphasizes continuous education, the development
of safety protocols, infrastructure improvement, and safety culture promotion, paving the way for a reduction in accidents,
increased parental trust, improved athletic performance, and sustainability of physical education programs. This model
can serve as a roadmap for educational policymakers and school administrators in developing sustainable safe sports
practices in educational environments.
